Forty-five Circa 1K entries headed into Week 14 with high hopes after surviving the intense Thanksgiving week gauntlet. Each entry was now worth over $415,000, and the finish line was in view. Thursday night's matchup between Dallas and Detroit passed almost without notice as there were no entries on that game. By Sunday, however, entry holders were clutching their metaphorical knitting needles, not knowing if an upset would end months of strategic planning.
The most consequential game of the week by far was Saints vs Bucs, as 28 of the 45 remaining Circa 1K entries were backing Tampa Bay. The stormy conditions in Tampa mirrored the emotions of everyone left in the contest. In short, rookie QB Tyler Shough's 2 TDs, a clutch field goal by Charlie Smyth, and some bayou luck powered the Saints to a hard-fought victory. This result wiped out 28 entries, pulverizing the field.
The drama continued that day as five entries who had hung their hopes on the Browns were shown the door. Three entries on the Seahawks, three on the Rams, and two on the Broncos successfully sailed through, and single entries on the Packers and Dolphins survived their tests. Also on Sunday, a lone entry on the Ravens was dismissed by the force of the Steelers' efforts, and then on Monday night another entry departed as the Eagles bowed to the LA Chargers in overtime. By the time the dust settled, only ten Circa 1K entries remained.
This ruthlessly brief summary of Week 14 doesn't do justice to the long journey that brought these entries this far into the season. Each survivor has spent hours making calculated decisions, weathering upsets, and outlasting thousands of opponents. Any player still watching can appreciate the exponentially rising tension week by week at this stage. We can't wait to see where these ten battle-tested survivors will pin their hopes in Week 15.
